Regional Economic Advantage
Macro: Regional Economic Advantages
Swaziland is part of the huge economic hinterland of Southern Africa and offers abundant market opportunities to foreign investors with optimal exploitation to export markets. Preferential agreements with the United States us and European Union (EU) provide easier access to the US and EU markets while membership in regional economic alliances such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) provide tremendous benefits to foreign investors.
As the economic growth of SADC and COMESA continues to gather strength, so too does Swaziland’s economy and opportunity in the agricultural biotechnology market. Moreover, a favorable investment environment is formulated in view of neighboring South Africa’s strong economy accounting for 20% of the total SADC population and over 70% of the SADC GDP. The close ties and regional cooperation between both countries offers an immediate springboard to initiate and target the biotechnology industry to a progressive and dynamic market full of promise and potential.
